I love being at the shop! It is a totally different process than painting. Somehow it feels like working backwards, I am glad I have Nick and Nadine's help. So far we have printed the background, all transparent yellows, laying down the shapes so we can then mess with it by printing solids on top.
This morning we all sat down to a lovely breakfast outside of the shop when we heard a loud crackle and a flash of light. A few mintues later we realized the whole block had lost power! So we got a late start today but we finally got back to work and printed the 3rd color....of course we are heading down the minimal road...
I have been invited to print an edition at the beautiful SONNENZIMMER (sun room in german) print shop in Chicago with Nadine Nakanishi and Nick Butcher. We have just started and it is a very organic print, making one move, printing it and then responding and making the next move, etc. So far the print is based on torn paper pieces and the layering and blocking out of colors and shapes. I am loving the print process and getting out of my solitary studio practice and collaborate!
